How to Set Up Email on iOS
Using IMAP to add a business email account to an iPhone or iPad keeps messages and folders synchronized across devices. Before starting, confirm your email address, password, incoming and outgoing server names, and port details with your provider.
Add the Account to iOS
- Open Settings and go to Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts.
- Select Add Account > Other > Add Mail Account.
- Enter your name, full email address, password and a recognizable description.
- Choose IMAP and complete the incoming and outgoing server fields.
- Use the full email address as the username unless your provider specifies otherwise, then save the account.
Recommended Secure Settings
- Use port 993 with SSL/TLS for IMAP in most environments.
- Use SMTP port 465 or port 587 with STARTTLS as directed by your provider.
- Keep authentication enabled for the outgoing server.
Troubleshooting
If verification fails, check the username, password and server spelling. Switch between Wi‑Fi and cellular data to identify network restrictions. Accounts protected by two-factor authentication may require an app password. Never accept a certificate warning until the server hostname matches the official value supplied by your email provider.
