How to Set Up Email on Android

Microsoft Outlook for Android can securely manage personal or business email accounts. IMAP is recommended for most users because it keeps messages on the server and synchronizes folders across phones, computers and webmail.

Information You Need

Prepare the full email address, password, incoming and outgoing server names, ports and encryption types. Verify these values with your provider instead of relying on guessed settings.

1. Install Microsoft Outlook from Google Play.
2. Open the app and select Add Account.
3. Enter the email address you want to configure.
4. If automatic discovery fails, open advanced settings and choose IMAP.
5. Complete the incoming server, outgoing server, port, encryption, username and password fields.
6. Save the settings and wait for server verification.

Secure Ports and Encryption

• IMAP commonly uses port 993 with SSL/TLS.
• SMTP usually uses port 465 with SSL/TLS or 587 with STARTTLS.
• If POP is required, port 995 with SSL/TLS is common.

Common Problems

If sending fails, check SMTP authentication and the outgoing username. Repeated password prompts may indicate that an app password is required for two-factor authentication.
